Amerykański pisarz, historyk i wykładowca. Absolwent Uniwersytetu Yale. Dwukrotny laureat Nagrody Pulizera za książki Truman i John Adams oraz Amerykańskiej Nagrody Książkowej za The Path Between the Seas i Mornings on Horseback. Jest również dwukrotnym laureatem Nagrody im. Francisa Parkmana, nagrody Amerykańskiego Towarzystwa Książki za całokształt twórczości oraz złotego medalu przyznawanego przez American Academy of Arts Letters. W 2006 roku został uhonorowany najwyższym cywilnym odznaczeniem w USA – Prezydenckim Medalem Wolności. Książka Bracia Wright przez dziewięć [>>] miesięcy utrzymywała się na liście bestsellerów „New York Timesa”.
