Jesse James, the outlaw : simplified edition of a story by W. B. Lawson

Autor: Lawson, W. B.

Of all the authentic badmen and bandits of the Wild West, Jesse James has won the reputation of the American Robin Hood, who “took from the rich and gave to the poor` as the famous song would have us believe. The truth is that recently most of such characters have been given a sympathetic treatment, the celebrated film Butch Cassidy and Sundance Kid being the best example. This story, however, written not long after the outlaw was killed, gives evidence to the contrary.

"Dime

novels," like this one by W. B. Lawson, were Sensational adventure stories of swashbuckling heroes and violence, usually in paperback and selling for 10 cents. E.Z.C. Judson invented the genre with his "Buffalo Bill" stories in the 1850s. The dime novels evolving into the pulp magazine and next into pulp fiction finally gave the world such writers as Dashiell Hammett and Raymond Chandler. The celebrated QT°s movie Pulp Fiction also has its origin in dime novels.
